Sustainable Urban Development

Having livable, inclusive, gender-fair and child friendly cities is PHILSSA's underlying aspiration as it seeks to contribute to sustainable urban development. In building its envisioned cities, strategies and innovations shall be anchored on citizenship, social justice and sustainability,

Citizenship means we look at cities as a place where each of us has a stake in its survival and its future.

Social Justice as the moving force behind our work to reduce poverty, deprivation, marginalization and homelessness in the city.

Sustainability, reminding us to look after the carrying capacity of the city so that it continues to be a decent place to live, not only for today's generation but for the future generations.

Strategies to implement the components of PHILSSA's sustainable urban development thrusts, the following approaches will be used:

Consortium building around common issues and projects among partner-NGOs;

Organize, educate and mobilize for common issues in advocacy;

Document and provide venues to share practices in approaches to urban development;

Provide a mechanism for exchanges of best practices and learning in urban development among NGOs;

Set-up a fund-generation mechanism for partner NGOs engaged in common, complementary or related urban development projects;

Institutional strengthening and capacity building to enable NGOs and its partner POs to contribute to the task of sustainable urban development;

Mainstreaming awareness and sensitivity to the vulnerable sectors in the cities such as women, children and informal settlers, among others.
